Green trees swaying in the wind in the 110 degree weather in Phoenix, Arizona. It honestly was not as hot as it sounds! The trees at South Mountain cover the venue with sprawling green grass and beautiful mountain views. Alex and Amber have a sweet love story that involves pursuit and honesty and deep passion. Their romance was over the course of a few years and this wedding was the perfect representation of God’s love for his creation.
I’m sure you see all the beautiful detail shots on instagram, from your friends wedding or on Pinterest. Well that is not just up to the photographer to create, we need your help! Here are a few tips to remember as a bride.
1.ORGANIZED: Have a box set aside filled with all the details for me to grab while you are getting ready. This would include rings, your perfume, a few EXTRA sets of invitations or any other papery with envelopes, shoes, jewelry. Have your maid of honor gather all the things you need after or before rehearsal dinner and set the box in an easy spot to remember.
2. RINGS: Remember BOTH sets of rings need to be at getting ready location!! Sometimes the best man will have the grooms ring and I am not able to photograph all the detail shots when the given time is. So triple check to be sure your engagement ring, wedding band, and his ring is ready to go together in the morning.
3.SENTIMENTAL ITEMS: Whether your special items are from grandma or mom, they create a beautiful memorable setting for details. If this is jewelry, a handkerchief, or a special item passed to all the women in the family- these little pieces help the imagery make it special to your wedding day to remember.
4. FLOWERS: Asking the florist for loose flowers when she drops off the bouquets!! For lay flat images, loose flowers really help pull in all the wedding colors throughout the day. I’m not in direct communicate with the florist often, until during or after the wedding, so if you could make a note to ask her for some extra (1-5 flowers) and extra foliage left over from your florals it would add to the details.
5. TIME: Add time in for these shots in your timeline. I usually spend 1 hour on wedding detail shots the morning of. For most photographers these detail shots happen during getting ready shots in the morning. The rest of the day is CRAZY- so this is the best time. They are beautiful images to create but take time because most items are so small and must be placed correctly.
EXTRAS: Here are extra little things on etsy that help a wedding details page I’ve seen brides include in their details box that helps me:
All the right tropical beach family feels at this wedding!! I cannot express to you the amazingness of these two humans. They are parents to three adorable children, give unconditionally to their community, and are so loving towards each other. It’s a real shame we didn’t have ANY fun at their wedding 😉
The Zoetry Agua, in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, was where this wedding took place. Nestled inside of hundreds of palm trees there are swimming pools wrapped around each hidden bungalow that laid across the beautiful grounds. This all inclusive resort was top notch when it came to service and excellence. Austin and Alli picked one of the best to celebrate their love. Both grew up in Victoria, Texas where they met 6 months after both their sons were born. Now they’ve been together for four years and share a baby girl that is probably the most adorable child I’ve ever seen. The family they’ve created together is one that is inviting, inclusive to all, and fun!! They know how to party!
50 of their friends and family flew in for this special week! They are truly so loved by the people around them. The speeches brought everyone to tears in the room, the moments just hanging in the pool was intentional good conversation, and everyone welcomed me right into their community of friends. I cannot say enough good things about this couple and their wedding day. Alli and Austin wanted a simple beach wedding and that they got!! I’m convinced more people need to do destination weddings simply for the fact of QUALITY TIME with the most important people in their life. Alli told me it was the best choice they made!
Chicago natives, Ali and Bryan fell in love with the Sedona Red Rock vibe long ago while visiting out West. Just like the spark between them, there was that same spark with Sedona. With having your wedding L’Auberge in the heart of Sedona, you get creekside beauty along with red rock vistas. The resort is filled with tiny romantic cabins, pathways with beautiful trees hanging down, and the sound of the creek rushing by. It was an obvious to Ali and Bryan- this will be the place they get married.
Ali and Bryan met a few years ago while at work. He a public defender, her an OD. They are right amounts of fierce, sassy, sweet, and playful. You won’t find another couple better for each other- that I’m sure of!!
Their wedding day was filled with family, laughter, and a lot of love. Family is very important to them and they were lucky most of their family was able to fly out from all over the country to attend. Pops of light pink and green scattered the wedding day! With clouds overhead the ceremony was this perfect lighting I had never seen before in Sedona. Usually, the red rocks are hard to photograph because the Arizona sun is SO bright but, that day lended itself to perfection in the sky. Their vows were sweet and honest. Their kisses were passionate and happy. Their day was truly beautiful.
On the perfect September day, Kelsey and Richard got married at Fox Boro Ranch outside of Munds park. Their wedding day was full of laughter, two beautiful dresses, and lots of dancing!! Arizona raised, they love the mountain forest feel and decided Munds Park/Flagstaff area was the perfect place for their wedding. Lake with willow trees and pine trees standing tall set the scene for this memorable day.
Yes, they had a whiskey bar, a party dress, and amazing wedding cake!! Yes, they are so in love and you can feel it. Yes, he cried when she walked down the isle.

Oh my dear goodness! This Phoenix desert resort wedding was one filled with joy, fun, and a whole lot of laughter. Renee and Jordan dated years ago in high school when they realized it was just not going to work out. Both Flagstaff,AZ natives they grew up in the mountains skiing and fishing. He is goofy, genuine, and kind. She is the sweetest thing on the earth, compassionate, and hard worker. They make this dream team of a couple after getting back together in college. They had their son Henry and decided to get married six years later. The Smoke Tree Resort is located in Paradise Valley with bungalows, pools, and desert vibes. Palm trees and agave plants surround the property where only their guests were staying.
Renee’s father is a Hot Shot for Flagstaff Fire so during the long summers when he was away, her mother would take the girls down to this resort for some fun. This resort housed Jordan and Renee’s 120 person wedding with Mexican food and margaritas’!! Cannot forget to mentioned how most people ended up in the pool by the end of the night because it was May 5th and still SO HOT in Phoenix.
