Flagstaff Elopement Locations

How to plan an elopement in Flagstaff, Arizona

Having an elopement is the best next thing to do currently. Now that this global pandemic is in full swing and probably not going anywhere anytime soon (sad tears) we must learn how to make lemonade out of lemons! For a lot of my couples they have had to change their wedding dates multiple times due to covid. But also a lot of them have decided to have an elopement in a beautiful location with minimal people. Due to states having restrictions anywhere from 3-10 guests are perfect for a small intimate elopement.

I MEAN have you ever been a more beautiful cute little town as Flagstaff. Located in Northern Arizona, Flagstaff is home to the San Fransisco Peaks, magical aspen forests, and an historical downtown filled with shops and restaurants. With Flagstaff and it’s surrounding area containing the worlds largest ponderosa pine forest, there are endless possibilities for elopement locations. Sedona and her red rocks are usually a very sought after location for elopements along with the Grand Canyon and Horseshoe Bend, but what people don’t know is the beauty Flagstaff has to offer for mountain forest elopement vibes galore.

Here are some ideas on how to plan a Flagstaff elopement. Everything from locations, officiants, florals, and dinner locations after.

Locations:

Lockett Meadow

I love love love this location in Flagstaff. It’s only open during April-October and closed during winter months due to a really rocky road!! This is my favorite location to take people to during the fall because of the mountain views and fall colors. They are incredible! Big open field to choose to have an elopement. Or you could choose to be in the aspen groves surrounded around those beautiful trees swaying in the wind.

Hart Prairie

I have never shot an actual wedding at this location, even though I want to so bad!!! I’ve only shot a bunch of engagement sessions. But as you can see from the images below there are options! You could get married in the aspen groves, in the tall swaying grass, or on top of a mesa with the mountain view in the background. Also, the sunset here is my favorite!!

Snowbowl

Flagstaff resides next to a huge mountain called Humphrey’s Peak. Snowbowl is the ski resort on the mountain. With these beautiful views of the valley below, Snowbowl offers incredible views, aspens, mountain shots, and the sunset!! It’s incredible. Only 35 min drive from downtown.

Edge of the World

This location I was hesitant to put out into the world because it’s my personal favorite camping location. I won’t tell you how to get there unless we book but it’s truly magical. About 60 min drive from town on a dirt road, you’ll get to Edge of the World that overlooks Sedona. There are many different locations and paths to get to the edge and I have the best ones saved. It’s breath taking.

Taryn + Ryan // Flagstaff, AZ

October 13th // Backyard Wedding

Did someone say Oktoberfest wedding?!? Taryn and Ryan created the most autumn themed wedding I have ever been to!! Bratwurst, beer, pumpkins, and pies- it gave you all the right October feels. I cannot express how the detail that went into this wedding. Taryn left no stone up turned.

Taryn and Ryan’s families new each other growing up. They are the most unlikely of couples but they work so perfectly together. He is this wild, extreme, kind, happy guy. She is this creative, smart, organized, beautiful woman. They connected again while dancing at the local two step bar one night and felt an instant mutual attraction. They run together, hike together, travel together, and cook together. They are the best of friends!

The day did not go according to plan but when does a wedding ever happen on plan? Within the last decade it has not rained on October 13th. It rained the whole day this year! Due to a fluke tropical storm we had a beautiful rainy wedding day! I know if it rains on your wedding day it’s good luck- they got luck piled up for the rest of their lives if that is true!! Taryn’s wedding vision was amazing. Every detail came to light. While it thundered strong during the ceremony, the reception went all night long in that tent!

Oktoberfest was the theme! Her mother made homemade german bratwurst, sourcrout, and potatoes. With hints of blackberry everywhere in the candy popcorn, infused water, and homemade blackerry pies it was a treat!!

They danced and danced with a sparkler exit at the end!!

Shelby + Gabriel // Flagstaff, AZ

October 6th // Snowbowl

While the aspen leaves were in full splendor and the mountain stood tall, Shelby and Gabriel united as one in nature. After meeting in high school, dating through college, it was time to get married! They both attended NAU for college and fell in love with Flagstaff’s organic living. Time is slower, people are friendlier, and the trees are bigger.

Flagstaff has a wonderful venue up at the mountain in the ski lodge. Half the year skiers from all over the state come to play in the white powered snow on Humphrey’s peaks while the other half of the year people hike up it in the hot summer sun. The wedding venue over looks the valley of rolling hills and mountains Arizona has. Shelby wanted the autumn leaves so bad she was willing to hike into the perfect spot for them! Thankfully she is so down to earth and easy going that this was no issue for her. Her and Gabriel spun in the fields with the yellow trees glowing.

Shelby is compassionate, sweet, and a little wild!

Gabriel is mysterious, kind hearted, and loving.

Together they create this beautiful friendship where love flourishes.

Flagstaff, Arizona- Viola’s Flower Garden

While you read this and look through the photographs I want you to have a Disney princess song playing gently in your head. All will make sense 🙂

I had the honor of photographing my beautiful friends wedding at a new located Viola’s Flower Garden. I get so excited when more and more venues pop up all over Flagstaff for weddings. This one is a gem!!! No need for decorations, the flowers say it all. Rachael, sweet woman she is, got ready there at the gardens all the while listening to a Disney soundtrack. You won’t find a woman more like Cinderella anywhere! Bubbly, kind, and giggly- Rachael is our Cinderella. This wedding was very magical. I felt like at any moment I could see little birds tweeting here and there trying to help get our Cinderella ready for her big day. That it was, a big day filled with sugar, laughter, and dancing. I have NEVER photographed a man more enthusiastic as his bride walked down the isle. I was taken away by the emotion of it all. Rachael and Austin’s love feels like it is out of a fairytale!! The way he gazes at her, dances with her, and kisses her hand gently feels like prince charming. With their closest family and friends, the two became one amidst the flowers and birds.
