Laura + Justin // Miami, FL

Justin and Laura foreheads touching in a beautiful green courtyard

May 25th // Miami, Florida

This midwest mixed with cuban culture wedding was both hot + spicy. Miami turned out to be the perfect setting for Justin and Laura’s family-oriented grand wedding day. It was a humid May spring day with a light breeze in the air. They both held their anxious filled excitement through the getting ready process till they saw each other for the first time at the alter.

Justin and Laura met in Nashville while out with friends one random weekend. Laura lived in Miami and Justin in Knoxville but that did not stop Justin from pursuing hard after this beautiful woman. He was enamored by her beauty and kindness from the first moment they spoke. He did EVERYTHING to see her; even drive 18 hours in one weekend just to see her for 24 hours and drive home. They did long distance up until this last year where they bought a house together and a cute golden doodle puppy in Kentucky.

Laura’s cuban family and friends were fun and loud and full of energy! Justin’s Ohio family loved every minute experiencing the culture during the wedding. They got married in an old historic church in a gorgeous part of town with hundreds of their closest friends gathered looking down the aisle as Laura walked the long rows of this old church. Tears and laughter were much to be had during the ceremony.

I could not get over the sunlight, the lush green trees and unique architecture with textured walls. It was magical for a photographer and a friend. Growing up with Justin, I always knew he would marry a kind woman. Together they make a beautiful couple that will continue to help people their whole lives.

The night ended with a ridiculously amazing reception. From the dinner, to the crazy cuban hour and cigars as the parting gift- this wedding was unlike one I had ever photographed before.

Helpful Tips: wedding day details

Beautiful Wedding Day Detail Shots

I’m sure you see all the beautiful detail shots on instagram, from your friends wedding or on Pinterest. Well that is not just up to the photographer to create, we need your help! Here are a few tips to remember as a bride.

1.ORGANIZED: Have a box set aside filled with all the details for me to grab while you are getting ready. This would include rings, your perfume, a few EXTRA sets of invitations or any other papery with envelopes, shoes, jewelry. Have your maid of honor gather all the things you need after or before rehearsal dinner and set the box in an easy spot to remember.

2. RINGS: Remember BOTH sets of rings need to be at getting ready location!! Sometimes the best man will have the grooms ring and I am not able to photograph all the detail shots when the given time is. So triple check to be sure your engagement ring, wedding band, and his ring is ready to go together in the morning.

3.SENTIMENTAL ITEMS: Whether your special items are from grandma or mom, they create a beautiful memorable setting for details. If this is jewelry, a handkerchief, or a special item passed to all the women in the family- these little pieces help the imagery make it special to your wedding day to remember.

4. FLOWERS: Asking the florist for loose flowers when she drops off the bouquets!! For lay flat images, loose flowers really help pull in all the wedding colors throughout the day. I’m not in direct communicate with the florist often, until during or after the wedding, so if you could make a note to ask her for some extra (1-5 flowers) and extra foliage left over from your florals it would add to the details.

5. TIME: Add time in for these shots in your timeline. I usually spend 1 hour on wedding detail shots the morning of. For most photographers these detail shots happen during getting ready shots in the morning. The rest of the day is CRAZY- so this is the best time. They are beautiful images to create but take time because most items are so small and must be placed correctly.
