Here is to 2021 🥂 wedding season 🥂 kickin off!

This year, I’m doing it different.
No more burn out. No more saying yes to too much. No more fear about not making enough money during our busy season.
I intentionally said no to WAY more than ever, hired associates to take some of the work load, nailed in an amazinggggg editor, set a schedule for myself, and only offering family sessions during set mini session dates.
Excited to give my energy and creativity to these couples and their families this season!

I like my life when I feel good. I feel good when I eat things my body can process well. I process vegetables and fruit best.

I’m so glad @summer.sanders and I are on the same page about this one! Food is probably the largest most impactful decision we choose to make daily. It’s not just food, it’s our future life snd bodies we need to think of when we eat.
Not saying a good 🍕 or🍦 isn’t due throughout the month but when 🥑🥒🥦🫐🍋 fill our bodies it actually can heal rather than cause disease.

🌼WHAT an amazing wedding day to kick off September!!🌼
The light was pure magic yesterday in Flagstaff as Emilie & Henis get married with their sweet families watching.
Live music, tin types by @ericretterbush , & sunflowers for days, this day was nothing less than memories that will last the rest of our lives.

Emilie + Henis WEDDING DAY!!!!
These were some of my favorite engagement photos because we didn’t have a plan. We decided to meet at a random trailhead in Sedona and go wherever the wind took us. Usually I have a plan, because I’m “suppose to”, because I’m “professional”, because it looks better if I know what I’m doing. But it goes against my nature.
If you know me to ANY degree you will know I’m leaving for a trip tomorrow and still don’t have lodging booked….cause I’m a last minute planner. I bet that stressed a bunch of you out.

I’ve always lived with the wind. Letting it push me to Italy, to Tacoma, to Dallas, to Flagstaff. The wind has lead me and I trust her. Isn’t it funny how we try to control our life? We have this grand plan on who we are going to marry, where we are going to live, what we are going to do with our days then…it the wind comes. She picks you up and takes you to a place you never knew was there. I find it easier to go with the wind rather than fight her. Just like the ocean waves.

Today Emilie + Henis wed in Flagstaff in the most perfect month of the year- September!
Here is to the wind and letting her lead those two individuals to each other in a way they never planned.

But seriously, I grew up chasing sunsets with my father. Every night we would run out to our favorite spot at the lake or in Findlay to see the sky light up. Every country I’ve traveled and state I’ve been watching the sunset is my literal top priority every night. Even over food…and that’s saying a lot.
I don’t say it lightly or in a cheesy way but I chase sunsets for a living. Or I guess more as a lifestyle. That one my father ingrained in me from the beginning.

happy birthday to this woman!!!! In the last 10 years of friendship these are the things I have learned I love most about Kimbo:
-her sense of humor. truly a gift.
-her opinions. strong.
-her modeling abilities. shoots I force her to do for me. 😬
-her faith. deep + true.
-the way she knows herself and what she wants.
-how she wears winter clothes in hawaii- all year long.
-the amount of laughter that comes out of her daily. or at least when we’re together. 😂
Kim truly doesn’t try to be anyone else. From day one of our friendship in college I’ve always loved this most about her. She knows what she believes, who she is, and what she wants.

Also, she has VERY MUCH organized and taken my business to new places with in admin + operations this last month. Don’t leave the HRG Team ever please.

🥳Pantry closet remodel finished!!!🥳
This was once just a side triangle closet that we used as a pantry is NOW an ombré bar & book shelve !!!

Thank you to @briangottshall who tore out the old shelving and built this beautiful accent shelf!

This woman- she is amazing. She is fulllllll of strength but also gentleness. We met years and years ago freshman year of college at Indiana Wesleyan on the beach volleyball court where we would play every night with friends. But then she left Indiana sophomore year to return West to attend NAU in Flagstaff. We honestly didn’t reconnect till I moved here years later. And IM SO HAPPY I did because this soul is one that has filled my heart this last year during the pandemic.
She is a river runner, wild, free kind of spirit. Always down for adventure. She is a good friend. The perfect mix of feminine and masculine energy. She is going to be one of those moms I look up to.

We soaked up some sunshine and played in the wildflowers last night, just waiting for the arrival of this little man. So happy for Holly and Sean to be parents!!!!

ohhhh these summer Flagstaff weddings honestly fill my heart like no other weddings do.
Monsoon thunderstorms that roll in right when the ceremony starts (we all loved it), the wildflowers sprouting everywhere, and rainbows that come out to greet the newlyweds!!! 🌧🌻 🌈 Ah.
I love outdoor weddings because you let weather affect and influence your wedding day in a way only nature can. My Flagstaff couples know this all too well with living in a mountain town. From snow, to monsoons, to forest being closed due to wildfires, and more. We live in Flagstaff because we want natural world to influence our daily lives…and our wedding days.

Maddi + Luke fell in love in high school. But to a degree that many high schoolers may never experience till their older. A true, deep, life changing kind of love. Both born and raised in Flagstaff, there was no other place they would rather get married than this place, surrounded around the pine trees in Maddi’s own backyard. It was a neighborhood effort to put this wedding together. Everyone around helped their families put this wedding on. (Sounds like a true midwest kind of neighborhood to me!)
and IT WAS MAGICAL. We danced all night to the @luckydevilsband and ended with a beautiful sunset.

Our happy place. Safe place. Healing place.
Ian and I both have dreams WEEKLY about the ocean. I’m not kidding you. It’s actually kinda funny because I’ll ask how he slept and says “I was in the ocean” and I laugh saying “me too”. But there is always a hint of sadness because we have to drive at least 7 hours to get to the sweet ocean.
One day.
But I FINALLLLYY edited some of our Hawaii photos from March. MARCH people. That’s how busy I’ve been with work that I don’t get to edit personal photos till I’m caught up. Or till enough is enough and I say everything else can be put on pause so I can stare at the beautiful ocean again with my love.
My annual pilgrimage to the Hawaiian ocean was 10x better with this man by my side.
We laughed a lot, ate good food, swam everyday, and got quality time with family.

Surpriseeeee proposal for her and for me!!! 😂❤️ I love when these happen. The woman books a couples session so they can have beautiful photographs of their relationship but are not engaged yet and then he proposes MID session without me even knowing it’s coming. Those are when real raw emotions come out! You can’t fake that shit!!! Obsessed with these two New Jersey lovers who fell in love with each other during 2020 and want nothing more than the rest of their lives together! #sedonaproposal

WHY do a first look you ask?
For these reasons:
-Intimate sacred moments ALONE with no one else (other than me hiding far away)
-Calm the nerves before the ceremony
-Get to hang out almost all day rather than just the ceremony on when really you don’t get alone time you are interacting with everyone else but your partner
-Insurance for photography! If ceremony goes late, family formals, and bridal party- you may only have 5 mins left before your reception for bride + groom portraits. But a first look offers “insurance”. Insuring you 100% get photos of you two before ceremony. So we can save sunset photos as the fun playful shots right before reception.

I’m a BIG person on experiences and what it a wedding day feels like. Doing a first look shouldn’t be about the photos (if I’m being honest) it’s about the experience you have together on the wedding day. So many of my couples love doing a first look because they get to share in a special moment alone away from other people for this day they have been waiting for together. It can be whatever you want it to be. Funny, sweet, sacred.

Kailee and Lance opted for a first look and it was SO sweet. Lance started balling while Kailee laughed the whole time. But I know they cherish those moments together before everyone else started celebrating their love.

First looks are always optional :)

Just a little butt grab never hurt anyone 🍑

Happy ONE year anniversary to my besties Kaite + Justin.
We woke up for a sunrise first look in the fields of gold. It was magical.

Their kind of love reminds me it’s possible and real.
Honest, consistent, and passionate love can all coexist together.
We do not have to lose one to say yes to the other.

Their love story isn’t normal.
They dated 8 years ago right after college.
But it wasn’t right.
It wasn’t good timing for either of them.
So they let it go.
Drifted apart.
Changed and evolved and healed.
Found other interests.
But never lost their love.
7 years later Justin wrote Katie a letter and sent it in the mail.
Katie didn’t write him back gather she showed up on his front door step asking
“What is this about? Is this true? Do you still love me?”
3 months after she showed up on this door step he proposed…
on her doorstep. (NO joke I’m not kidding you)
1 year later they got married July 19th 2020.
During a year of pain and turmoil for the world-
their kind of love combats chaos.
We need more of it.

And I was right along side Katie listening to every single moment along the way.
Smiling and trusting- when you know, you know.

It was a freaking honor to photograph their wedding day.
As a wedding photographer herself I imagined she would hire someone she’s been admiring their work for years but, instead she hired her best friend.
It will go down in the books for one of my all time favorite wedding days.
Not because of the beautiful photographs
rather
the love that is shared between these two.
