One Day In December

Josie Silver

What I thought of the book:

The perfect beach summer book to take on a vacation or read in the hammock. Although it starts in December it’s not a holiday book. Josie journeys us through 10 years of a complicated love story and the lives of 4 major characters. Think romcom in a book! The story line consists of love at first sight, based in London modern day, and great character development. I couldn’t put the book down because I wanted to see what happened next to the main character Laurie.

I wouldn’t normally pick up this book because I don’t tend to like strictly modern-day love stories but I SO enjoyed this book. It was overall cute. My bookclub and I all agreed we could relate to any and all of the characters because their was good and bad in them. There wasn’t just one you were rooting for or connected to because even the main character had her major down falls. But we all agreed how it showed love is complicated and complex. It’s not perfect but rather a messy journey we all go on. The book reminded me of the movie Love Actually or When Harry Met Sally. If you love any romcom you will enjoy this book.

I will have to say the ending was a bit rushed and thought she could have drawn it out a bit more taking the readers to more of an emotional state like the rest of the book. Also, my bookclub and I all agreed we didn’t like the emotional cheating that happened in the book and didn’t want to rave about that part. No part of cheating is ok physical or emotional. You will see once you read the book. Love is complicated.

Who should read this book?

Probably a woman looking for a quick fun read. Nothing too deep or emotional. Someone who needs a month off of intense self-help books or historical fiction. Anyone would enjoy this who enjoys rom coms!

Why should you read this book?

You should read this book because, again, it shows how complicated love is. It’s not cut and dry all the time and it gives insight into a reality often few talk about. It helped me settle down to know I’m not the only one in the world that keeps secrets, believes in love at first sight, and how powerful love can be. It opened my eyes to different ways of living. I’m always so interested in how others live in different parts of the world and how relationships work. Also, they are all in their 20’s during the whole book, so that helped to connect to the characters because we are in the same life stage.
