Apparently, I’m turning into a maternity photogr

Apparently, I’m turning into a maternity photographer now 😂
JK- only for friends.
BUT this friend- I’ve known since Kindergarten! We grew up together with the same name in a small town. We played volleyball together for years and I took the nick name Rosie because when you were born in 1992 there is bound to be at least 5 Hannah’s in a room at any given time.
She is fiery, determined, and so fun to be around! AND SO excited for her to be a mama!!

As I’ve said in the past, I’m not willing to do maternity sessions UNLESS it’s by the water. That’s my only stipulation. And so I took them to Oak Creek Canyon for a lovely warm evening in the cool creek.
What an honor to photograph her and Chris as they enter new parenthood!!

I’m a believer in love. A believer that love fights the chaos in this world. We need more of it. Austin and Morgan’s love and wedding day was one of LIGHT, happiness, and all things fun.
Their wedding that took place at @aldeaweddingsinthewoods was specatular. We got 30 mins of rain in the forest with a whole lot of laughter with this crowd. They were one of my 2020 couples who pushed their wedding day back to 2021. So let’s just say the anticipation was real.

Morgan and Austin met in Flagstaff in the sandwich line at Sprouts. He was persistent, she was unsure. But slowly and surely she gave into what was always suppose to be. A beautiful, long, deep friendship. I don’t say this lightly because I photography A LOT of couples over the last 10 years… I can feel the thing between them. It’s magnetic.

The butt grab really did it for me 😂 but really this couple... cannot rave enough about my time with them spent on a windy cold evening at the south rim. LATER they told me these were their elopement photographs!!! They literally did not a single soul that they were getting eloped. That’s a trueeeee elopement for ya. Surprise!!!

We are ready for your arrival baby boy!!! But before he comes and all the attention is on him... let us not forget this AMAZING process happening within Em and her body. I’ve had a front seat view watching her body change over the last 9 months. Daily I have seen this crazy love take place between this new soul inside her. I’ve watched her body change, her skin stretch, her limits be pushed.

It reminds me we were never suppose to stay the same. It’s in the changing and morphing that we find new ourselves. Not a new version of us, but one we have just not met yet.
It’s an honor to do daily life with this woman and be invited into the beauty of her change.

I know this is not my normal wedding, home decor, or travel posts- but these kind of projects give life to my creativity and I want you to be invited into more of that on this platform. The naked human body is not gross or something that’s taboo. It’s the most human thing in this life and I’m here to document just that.

THIS DAY!! was so good. If you cannot tell from the brides smile, it was a day full of laughter and joy! Leah and Drew met, started dating, got engaged, and married within a year. They just knew. It was it. Sign the papers we’re good and never looking back.

I love that kind of love.
It’s simple.
To the point.
CLEAR in their hearts.

I can say this from being friends with Leah since high school…this one is different. I’ve stood by her side along all the heartache and heard all the stories of hope and disappointment but DREW was different.
No more games, no more drama, no more heartache.

I will say after many heart breaks, the journey is worth it.

So happy for you Leah + Drew! Your day was magical.

It was so hard to choose just 10 photos to showcase the amazing styled shoot from last week at the sycamore for my associate training day!

First, these vendors are amazing. Most all are Flagstaff local and that was my vision was not only to photograph a fun modern colorful shoot but to use local vendors.

Second, I’m so honored to do what I do. We make beautiful things for a living. I was reminded by a therapist, years ago when I was ready to quit the wedding industry that, what I’m doing by creating beauty is helping to combat the chaos, pain, destruction of the world. It’s still hard to remember that some days because it feels so material sometimes BUT beauty brings hope. And I’m honored to photography all things beautiful.

Today marks 31 years this soul has been on earth.
Ian has this gentle, quiet, deep presence about him that I love.
He is constantly giving of himself and his resources to help others.
He creates space for others in conversation in a way I hadn’t seen many people do.
He is crazy creative and comes up with at least 10 new ideas a day for a business.
He supports me and my business in ways no one has.
And he let’s me be me. He actually loves all my crazy chaos butterfly persona I bring.
He’s my calm and I’m his wild. 🌝 see that full moon we chased in the last photo!

I make most of my adjustments in camera: white bal

I make most of my adjustments in camera: white balance + exposure + ISO. It was shooting film that taught me that. But after years in the darkroom you learn- editing (or for film..burn and dodging + timing in each bath) is the final touch that makes a great photograph phenomenal. I don’t often edit anything too intensely. It’s just not my style ya know?

But tiny little adjustments make the world of difference to the eye!! In art school they DRILLED into us: the main subject should have all the focus and everything else in frame should be supporting the main subject. That’s why I never shoot against a tree because it will compete for main subject to the eye. Your eye is like…wait who is more important there the BIG object or these humans?? You want your eye to REST and enjoy an image. That takes composition, lighting, and visual interest!! But don’t forget about the tiny little things that take away from main subject. Like in this image all the cords and post sign- get them out and help the bright blue wall really help to speak to the main subject without any other distractions.

We want photographs that will time travel us back to a moment. For Jessica and Tanner it was this moment, chasing the sun on the streets of Charleston in between their ceremony and reception. We didn’t have exact locations rather we just played around and found what we could near by the venue. Those are the best kind of days :) #teacherhannah 😂

Minutes. I count minutes. I don’t count calori

Minutes.
I count minutes.
I don’t count calories…never have but minutes.
they run my life.

I find myself counting my days by the minutes I use.
How many I have left before I need to be somewhere else.
How many minutes it takes to drive to the gym and back.
How many minutes it takes for me to cull, edit, delivery a gallery.
I’m wagering my life by these minutes.
Minutes run my life.
And if I’m being honest I don’t know how to get away from the minutes.

My time in Italy was spent disarming minutes.
Not giving them the power to control my life.
Time was no longer the enemy I must fight against.
Time became my friend.

I want my life to not be counted my minutes but not even counted at all.
I don’t want to count anything.
I almost replaced minutes in the sentence above by the amount of times I go to the forest, swim deep in the ocean, snuggle with my love, kiss baby cheeks, and hug my parents.
But I don’t want to keep counting my life by anything frankly.
I want to stop counting, stop measuring, stop analyzing.
I just want my life to be fulfilled by pursuing my passions, being present in my body every single day, and drawing in deep breaths of fresh mountain air.

Maybe it’s the counting that I’ve gotten all wrong all these years.
It’s not that minutes are bad or the enemy.
Minutes are just minutes.
I let them run my day.
But today and the rest of my days I’m trying to let time be my friend
and be present with the only time we actually have now.

We’re going for memories to be made and remembered here!

Sure we take photos…but really what I want to do is create an experience you will always remember on your wedding or elopement day. Photographs can only go so far but when you make a physical connection with a place you remember the way it smells, what its sounds like, the feeling of what it’s like to be there. That is where the heart goes in times of sorrow and sadness is back to our happy places.
I hope to create one of those “happy day places” for you.
